The Deezer AI music policy is the strictest detection regime in streaming — and unlike most platform policies, it comes with published numbers. Deezer launched the industry's first AI music detection tool in January 2025, started selling that technology to rival platforms in January 2026, and by June 2026 was reporting that fully AI-generated tracks had exceeded 50% of all daily uploads at peak — roughly 90,000 tracks per day. No other platform detects as aggressively, tags as visibly, or publishes as much of its own data.

What the Deezer AI music policy is not, despite what the scarier headlines suggest, is a ban. Deezer accepts AI music into its catalogue. It then tags it, removes it from recommendations, demonetizes the fraudulent share of its streams, and — since July 2026 — deletes the fraud-linked and long-dormant portion of it. The distinction between "banned" and "contained" matters enormously for anyone releasing AI music, and so does a second distinction the coverage usually misses: you do not upload to Deezer directly. You reach it through a distributor, and the distributor's classifier is the gate that actually rejects files.

We have been benchmarking that gate all year with a 50-track AI corpus across Suno, Udio, and Stable Audio. This article covers what Deezer's policy actually does at each layer, how the numbers escalated from January 2025 to July 2026, and what our cleaned-versus-raw data shows about surviving a labelling-and-exclusion world.

The timeline: eighteen months from first detector to majority-AI uploads

Deezer's policy did not arrive in one announcement. It escalated in steps, and the sequence is worth laying out because each step tells you where the platform is heading next.

January 2025 — the first detector in streaming. Deezer deployed an in-house AI music detection tool, the first at any streaming platform. It identifies 100% AI-generated tracks from the major generative models — Suno and Udio are named explicitly in Deezer's own material — and the company says detection can be extended to practically any generator given access to training examples. Deezer also reports progress on a generalisable system that detects AI content without model-specific training data.

Through 2025 — tagging and exclusion at scale. Deezer became the first platform to detect, tag, and exclude AI-generated music from algorithmic recommendations. Over 13.4 million AI tracks were detected and tagged in 2025 alone. Fully-AI albums carry an AI label visible to listeners, and tagged tracks are systematically left out of Flow, editorial playlists, and algorithmic recommendations.

January 2026 — selling the detector. Deezer announced it would sell its detection technology to the wider industry. At that point the platform was receiving around 60,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day — roughly 39% of all daily deliveries. The same announcement carried the fraud statistic that anchors the whole policy: while AI tracks drew only a small share of total streams (up to 3%), up to 85% of those streams were fraudulent in 2025, against roughly 8% fraud across the entire catalogue.

April 2026 — 44% of uploads. Deezer's April report put AI at 44% of all new uploaded music: nearly 75,000 tracks per day, over 2 million per month, up from 18% in June 2025. AI consumption remained at 1–3% of total streams. Chief executive Alexis Lanternier framed the report as a call for other platforms to adopt similar enforcement.

June–July 2026 — past the halfway mark. In June, AI-generated tracks exceeded 50% of daily uploads at peak, with a monthly average around 90,000 tracks per day. On 21 July 2026, Deezer announced the enforcement escalation: it will take down generative-AI tracks used to generate fraudulent streams, and AI tracks that have not been streamed for six months or more.

The direction of travel is unambiguous. Every step has added detection coverage, visibility, or enforcement. Nothing in eighteen months has moved the other way.

What Deezer actually does with a detected AI track

The operational policy has four layers, and it is worth being precise about them because they affect creators very differently.

Tagging. Fully AI-generated tracks and albums carry an AI label. Listeners see it. This is a transparency measure, not a penalty — but it changes how a release reads to anyone who lands on it.

Recommendation exclusion. Tagged tracks are removed from algorithmic recommendations — including Flow, Deezer's flagship personalised feed — and from editorial playlists. This is the layer with the real commercial teeth. On a modern streaming platform, algorithmic and editorial placement is where the large majority of organic discovery happens. A track excluded from both is findable only by direct search, external links, or a listener's own library. It exists; it does not circulate.

Demonetization of fraud. Streams identified as fraudulent are cleared from the royalty pool. Deezer's data says up to 85% of streams on fully-AI tracks in 2025 were fraudulent — the platform's stated rationale being that stream-farming operations use AI tracks as cheap royalty-harvesting inventory. Legitimate streams on tagged tracks still pay.

Takedown (new for July 2026). AI tracks used for streaming fraud are removed, and so are AI tracks with no streams for six months or more. The dormancy rule is the quiet one, but for high-volume AI catalogue builders it is arguably the bigger deal: a thousand-track catalogue with no promotion and no recommendation placement accumulates zero-stream tracks fast, and those now get culled instead of sitting in the catalogue as a lottery ticket.

For comparison, Tidal has gone a step further on the money side — it refuses royalties for AI-generated songs outright, with AI tagging on the platform from mid-July 2026. Deezer's position is more moderate: legitimate plays on tagged tracks still earn. But between exclusion from discovery and the dormancy takedown, the practical earning surface for a detected-and-tagged AI track on Deezer is thin.

Does Deezer allow AI music? Yes — and that is not the right question

The direct answer to "does Deezer allow AI music" is yes: there is no prohibition, and millions of tagged AI tracks sit in the catalogue right now. But for anyone actually releasing music, the allow/ban framing misses where the decision gets made.

Deezer has no meaningful direct-upload route for independent artists. Your track reaches Deezer through a distributor — DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, or another aggregator — and every one of those distributors runs its own AI classifier at upload. In our testing, that gate is stricter than anything Deezer does afterwards. Our DistroKid breakdown documents a rejection threshold around 0.78 classifier confidence; raw Suno v5, Udio, and Stable Audio exports exceed it at 100%. CD Baby's written policy rejects declared fully-AI work outright even though its classifier is looser. Spotify direct ingestion sits around 0.85 in our testing.

So the real sequence for an AI release headed to Deezer is:

  1. The distributor classifier — the strictest gate, and the one that rejects files outright.
  2. Deezer's detector — which does not reject, but tags, excludes, and (where fraud or dormancy applies) removes.

A raw generator export typically never reaches step two. It fails at step one, at the distributor, with a rejection email that does not mention Deezer at all. This is why "Deezer rejected my track" almost never describes what actually happened — and why the fix lives at the file level, before upload, not in any Deezer setting.

Two constants sit underneath the growth curve. AI consumption stays at 1–3% of total streams no matter how fast uploads grow — listeners are not choosing this content at anything like the rate it arrives. And the fraud share of those streams stays extreme, at up to 85% against 8% catalogue-wide. That asymmetry is what makes Deezer's whole containment strategy viable: it can tag, exclude, demonetize, and delete AI content at scale while touching almost none of what its listeners actually play.

What our benchmark shows: cleaned versus raw in a tagging world

Our standing benchmark is a 50-file AI music corpus — Suno, Udio, and Stable Audio — submitted through production distributor pipelines. The headline numbers, documented in full on our methodology page:

Raw exports: 0/50 reached streaming platforms. Every unmodified generator export was rejected by the distributor classifier — DistroKid, TuneCore, and Spotify direct in our testing. In a Deezer context this means the raw files never arrived at Deezer's detector at all. The distributor gate is doing the filtering that headlines attribute to the platforms.

Cleaned exports (processed through Undetectr): 49/50 passed the distributor gate. The single failure was an unrelated copyright flag on a remix-style cover, not an AI-classifier catch. The cleaned files delivered to streaming platforms — Deezer included — through the normal pipeline.

At our 90-day check, none of the live cleaned tracks carried Deezer's AI tag. We monitored the delivered corpus on Deezer and found no AI labels applied and no exclusion behaviour we could detect from the outside. We want to be precise about what this does and does not establish: it is an observation at a point in time against a classifier Deezer actively retrains — and is now selling, which gives it a commercial incentive to keep improving. Deezer has explicitly stated it is working toward generalisable detection that needs no model-specific training data. Our quarterly re-benchmarks exist precisely because this result is a measurement, not a permanent property of the files.

The mechanism behind the result is the same one we document across the site: generator exports carry an embedded SynthID-class watermark, a C2PA provenance manifest, and a statistical fingerprint in the spectral content. Detection systems — distributor and platform alike — key on those layers. Remove the layers and there is substantially less signal to detect. The workflow for releasing to Deezer in 2026

For a track headed to Deezer through a distributor, the release prep that survived our testing:

Step 1. Generate under a licence that grants you commercial rights. Suno Pro or Premier, Udio's paid tiers, or equivalent. This matters legally (more below) and practically — paid tiers export higher-quality files.

Step 2. Export at maximum quality. WAV where the plan allows it.

Step 3. Clean the file. Run it through Undetectr in the browser — WAV, MP3, FLAC, or M4A in, under a minute per track, roughly 90 seconds at the outside. It processes the six artifact layers: the SynthID-class embedded watermark, the C2PA manifest, the spectral fingerprint, and the secondary layers. Step 4. Pre-screen. Optionally verify with a public detector so you see roughly what the classifiers will see. The detector page lists which ones correlate with distributor outcomes.

Step 6. Do the discovery work. This is the step Deezer's policy makes non-optional. Even a track that draws no AI tag competes in a catalogue where half the daily inflow is AI and platforms are actively re-routing attention toward verified human engagement. Every recommendation on this site ships with its case against, and this one has several.

Deezer's detector is a moving target with a business model attached. Deezer sells this technology now. It has stated ambitions toward generalisable detection. A clean pass in July 2026 is exactly that — July 2026. We re-benchmark quarterly and update this page when the numbers move, in either direction.

Cleaning a file does not make fraud legitimate. Deezer's demonetization and takedown machinery targets fraudulent streaming, and that enforcement applies regardless of whether a track is tagged. If the plan involves stream farms, the file's artifact status is irrelevant — the behavioural fraud detection catches the streams, not the spectra, and up to 85% of AI-track streams were caught that way in 2025. The legal position covers your own licensed output. For generators whose terms grant commercial rights, removing watermarks from your own releases is not DMCA circumvention under current US and EU interpretation. A remover does not fix a weak song. Deezer's 1–3% consumption figure against a 50% upload share is the bluntest possible statement of the real problem: most AI music has no audience. Clearing the detection layer gets a track into the catalogue on equal footing. What happens after that is entirely about whether the music is worth hearing and whether anyone finds out it exists.

Deezer built the strictest detection environment in streaming and published the data to prove it. The practical read for creators is unchanged from our distributor testing: the gate that matters sits at the file level, before upload. Clean files pass it; raw exports do not; and in a catalogue drowning in 90,000 raw exports a day, being in the small minority that ships clean, licensed, promoted work is — for once — an actual advantage.
